So I have been giving NaNoWriMo a lot of thought and I have decided that I am not going to officially participate. I need to finish the novel I am working on before I start on another. BUT. . . that being said, I still plan to do a fun project for the month of November -- one that will hopefully help me stay on a very productive path and help satisfy the NaNoWriMo fever that has taken hold of me. And the best part about this project? I need your help!!!!
Here's my plan: I want to write a new short story for every day in November. I am blantantly stealing this part of the idea from one of my writerly friends who did this one NaNoWriMo and was able to pull it off. I am not going to worry about word count, as long as whatever I write each day can be considered a complete story. However, in order to do this, I am going to need a lot of inspiration. This is where you come in! For each day, I would like to have something to inspire my story. Maybe a photograph, maybe a song, maybe a piece of art or maybe even just a word or phrase. I would like these inspiring pieces to come from my friends and family or anyone else that wants to participate. If I end up using whatever you send me for inspiration, I will post it right here along with a special thank you to the artist or muse who provided the inspiration and a summary of the story that sprang from it. (Sorry, I won't be posting the actual stories! But if you are interested in reading any of them, you can always send me an email asking!)
So just some housekeeping stuff. . . if you send me a photo or piece of art or a song to inspire me, it must be your own work! I do not want to inadvertantly post someone's work without their permission. That is just plain wrong. Also, please let me know if it is okay to post your work on my site or if you would prefer I instead post a link back to your site and the inspiring piece. I am happy to do either. I will also need your full name so I can give credit where credit is due. If you are not the artistic type, words work just as well! I have several stories that started when I asked someone to just give me a word. (Bunny Ears and A Piece of the Sky are my two favorites.) If you want to go the word route, try and come up with something concrete that can conjure and image. Nouns or concrete verbs are usually best. Examples of words I have written stories from are "chocolate", "sky" and "jewel".
So if you are interested in helping me out with my project, please send whatever it is that you want to send me to diane@digillette.com. I have no idea how much of a response I am going to be able to drum up, so please don't take it personally if I don't end up using your piece. Remember, there are only 30 days in November! But I will be very appreciative to anyone who does contribute to my project and will probably send you a very nice thank you email at the very least.
Happy Writing!
