Apparently, attending a conference with 10,000 other people from various parts of the country and beyond (I spoke to at least one Canadian, so I assume there were others from outside the U.S.) is a good way to get exposed to all kinds of delightful germs. I am happy to say though that as of today, I have downgraded my illness from THE PLAGUE to The Crud and I suspect I will make a full recovery, though I may not ever get over all the bad TV I've watched in the last three days because I've simply not had the energy to do anything else. Because I seem to be on the mend, I have high hopes for getting my post about AWP up tomorrow sometime. I had really hoped to do it earlier this week, but hey, I had THE PLAGUE, so you can't really blame me for focusing my energies on other, more important things. . . like watching America's Next Top Model (British Invasion) and Say Yes to the Dress. Don't judge me. I had a fever. A fever!!! Now that I am simply suffering from The Crud, I am able to be semi-productive, and I suspect my TV tastes will improve or I will at least become coherent enough to stop blogging about them.
Declining
For all of my lovely online friends who have been stopping by to bestow awards on me, I just wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude and then politely decline said honors. I simply do not participate in the accepting and bestowing of blog awards. So thank you for thinking of me, but I really must say no.
Publishing
For anyone who missed my last post, I have a story in the Spring 2012 issue of 5x5 which can be yours for the low, low price of $5. I suggest ordering early and ordering often!
In other publishing news, yesterday I received an acceptance for one of my short stories to appear later this month (from an actual paying market, no less!), which brings me up to six total stories that have appeared or are forthcoming so far this year. I had set a goal to average one story a month (or twelve total stories for 2012), and it is really exciting to have reached the halfway point to my goal in March. Woot woot! Here's hoping that blogging about it doesn't jinx me.
Last thing under the publishing heading: it recently came to my attention that the newish literary magazine Black Words on White Paper is now defunct. This is sad on a general level because I know how hard it is for literary magazines to stay afloat, and it is always a pity when a new one just doesn't survive. And this is sad for me personally because they published a flash piece of mine a couple years ago and now it is no longer available. However, fear not faithful readers, if you are dying to read this elusive story (and why wouldn't you be?), I have good news. I posted Absence over at Fictonaut for your reading pleasure. Go forth and read, my friends! Go forth and read!
Okay, that is all I can muster up thanks to The Crud, but hopefully, I will be blogging at you again tomorrow!
Happy Writing!
